Because this Blue Diamond Vase takes a playful approach to antique amphoras. With its deep blue glaze and generous shapes, it also reminds us of the monochromes by French artist Yves Klein.
This vase has been handmade by Bristol-based, London-born artist and designer
Sophie Alda. She explores the relationship between the functional, the sculptural and the narratively suggestive, approaching materiality and tactility in a playful way while rejecting the hierarchy of the practically useful/ art object within craft or otherwise
Sophie Alda is a founding member of workshop co-operative Clay Collective based in Hackney, London. The aims in forming the organisation and space were to provide a democratic and supportive space and community in which practitioners could work and collaborate, sharing skills, space, ideas and resources.
